Hit tracker from WP.com

I guess this is what they mean by the halo effect — that, or Steve Jobs’ reality distortion field

Last week’s post on the iPhone resulted in a huge spike in hits on this humble site. It was actually fascinating to watch it unfold in front of me. First the editors at MacSurfer were kind enough to link to the piece, which got me enough hits to be listed as one WordPress.com’s fastest growing blogs, which got me even more hits as fellow WP.com bloggers found and linked to me from their own sites. If nothing else it’s a huge testament to the power of Apple’s marketing machine.

About that, now that the sparkle on the iPhone has faded a bit, folks are starting to realize that the iPhone isn’t necessarily the paradigm shift that Jobs and Co. would lead us to believe. All About Symbian (devoted to the operating system used in Nokia handsets) has posted a great editorial proclaiming that the real revolution in smartphones will be a $50 almost-disposable device. I whole-heartedly agree, but from this moment on I’m only writing about new Apple products, because that’s where the hits are! ;-)
