WTF, another blog layout?!

It’s all in the service of you, my valued readers — since only the most intelligent and discerning web surfers make their way to these pages (save for the odd commenter) the least I can do is give the place a fresh coat of paint every now and again!

Usability feedback is always welcome. For your reference, the history of themes on this particular blog has been as follows:

I switched to this current theme for three reasons:

  1. The more subtle colour scheme
  2. The excerpts listed below the newest entry on the main page
  3. The unique footer with integrated Blogroll

I had been eschewing the use of a Blogroll in favour of del.icio.us, the links I gather daily as I make my morning rounds around the internet. But since this particular WordPress theme gives me no choice but to include a Blogroll, here’s a rundown of what’s on it:

All About Symbian is an excellent resource for Symbian-powered smartphones like my spiffy Nokia E61i. It features software reviews, editorials and even video podcasts shot on Symbian devices!

FlyerTalk Forums is where I learned everything I know about world travel, including airlines, hotels and more. It was an absolute life-saver when I booked tickets for my after-Christmas holiday, which I’ll detail in a future post.

HowardForums is the creation of Markham-based entrepreneur Howard Chui. It’s your one-stop shop for technical assistance, used handsets and wild speculation about the wireless industry and future devices.

MacSurfer is my all-time favourite Mac-related news page, one I’ve been checking in on daily since the late ’90s. It’s basically a news aggregator without the RSS feed, but an excellent site nonetheless. Some posts of mine have been featured on there, and the huge spike in hits that result suggests that the site is still very popular.

PET3RS is the homepage for Approximately 3 Peters, former students of mine who formed a very successful local comedy troupe and kept me on as their director. They’ve got some upcoming shows that you can read about on my Bulletin page.

And last but not least is The Second City, where I’ve worked off and on for the last fifteen years. I’ve linked to the page for the Toronto Training Centre, where I currently teach.

And before anyone starts complaining that I haven’t linked to them, my brand-new Other Sites page has got you covered, along with a directory of my alternate destinations on the web.

Enjoy!

Aw, shucks –thanks for putting me on your other sites page.
I’m going to have to pull up the socks and be more insightful….

I like this layout, but I’ve also liked the others. The only note I have is that the comments box loaded funny on my PC (IE version 6.0.2900). The text goes under the name/mail info for some reason. Everything looks to have loaded properly as IE claims there are no errors….

  2. Hmmm… Can’t see any evidence of that on my Lenovo laptop. I’m using the IE tab plug-in for Firefox, which uses the rendering engine from my installation of Internet Exploder 7.

OK, IE6 is still doing the same thing today, and the message box is a bit wider, but the text still runs under the name/info boxes. I count 47 characters before they disappear.
    Gawd, I loves Microsoft software….

  4. Okay Ed, I see what you’re talking about now. It’s only a problem on the post/comments page.

Ugh. Will have to consult the forums about this…

  5. Okay, got a message in at the WordPress.com Forums. Anyone who wants to play along can check up on the progress of the issue here:
