Proof by *both* sides of the fence that Hollywood is completely fucked.

Exhibit A: Search Engine’s Jesse Brown on why file sharing isn’t going anywhere:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Exhibit B: Quote from a film studio exec in Jonathan Zittrain’s The Future of the Internet — and How to Stop It:

We have to act in a rational and cautious fashion, no matter how much potential new markets like the Internet have. Our core mission is to protect our library of films, and earn as much as possible from that library over time… So that means focusing our efforts on what’s proven — i.e. the DVD — and only dipping our toes into new consumer technologies. We simply aren’t programmed to move quickly.

… So there you have it. One one side, a group of completely pragmatic consumers whose only concern is finding the best available product; on the other, a old guard of executives so terrified of undervaluing their plunder that they’ll sit idly and let it slip away piece by piece.

Sounds like they’ve already lost, doesn’t it?
